Nasty Foods

Recently while dining at a local TGI Fridays’ restaurant, Kathy a member of our dining party blurted these words that irk me every time I hear it.

She said, “This food is nasty.”

What’s nasty about the food? I asked, desperately trying to hold back my indignation.

“I don’t like the taste,” She replied.

Well then, I quickly responded with an angry flare of disgust–rather than saying the food is nasty, why didn’t you simply say, I don’t like the taste. Is it spoiled? Is it contaminated?

“No”! She replied. “But something’s missing from the mashed potato, it doesn’t taste right, the steak isn’t cooked, and the corn is hard. I can’t eat this!”

To call any food nasty is an inappropriate comment to be made by anyone. For, while one person may not like the taste, for whatever the reason–someone else will gladly devour a portion and may even ask for more. I’m convinced, It’s our abundant supply that affords us the luxury of waste.

Here A Brief Guide to Peruvian Cuisine

When my mother immigrated to the United States, she didn’t entirely leave her Peruvian heritage behind. Sure she learned the language and adjusted to the customs, but my sister and I were well aware growing up that there was a bit of Incan flare in our home: From unorthodox Christmas time traditions, to decorative plates of the Nazca lines in our dining room.

But if there are two things Peruvians (as well as any people of hispanic background) love, it’s music and food. Today we will be talking about the latter.

Keep in mind, this isn’t a recipe guide, but rather just a brief overview of some dishes I particularly enjoy.

However, with many people opting for frozen food, misconceptions regarding it have been rising as well.

Frozen food is not nutritious

Frozen food could sometimes lose out on some nutritional value but the reality is that they are generally more nutritious than the fresh food that’s available at the grocery store. The reason for this is that out-of-season produce is picked before it has completely ripened and then stored, cutting down a great deal of nutritional value before you finally eat it. By comparison, frozen food is picked when it’s ripe and then frozen, so it only loses some nutritional value during storage.

Too processed

While grocery freezers are packed with unhealthy frozen dinners, there are some great healthy choices as well. This is why it’s important to go for
